Great Uncle Tim & Great Aunt Barbara Visit!

Its been quite the weekend so far! Along with the fun Fireman festival, we also had a visit from Uncle Tim and Aunt Barb! Aunt Barb had lots of new songs to sing for Jakub and he was mesmerized! Jakub also had a lot of his funny faces to share with Uncle Tim! Check out some more pics in our photo albums. It was only a short visit and we can't wait to see them again at the end of June along with all of the other Leaches with Jakub's big cousins to meet!

125th Anniversary of the Orchard Park Fire Company

Today was the big celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the OPFC. Both Daddy and Papa are firefighters with the company, so of course we had to check out the festivities! There were rides on the big ladder truck, bounce houses for the little kids, spray the firehose at the cones, free hot dogs and snow cones, a band, face painting, balloon animals and demonstrations of all of the big fireman tools! Lots to see and do! We just had to get a picture of little Jakub and Daddy with the big fire truck and Daddy's fire gear! Oh and you can't see it very well, but those are little firetrucks on Jakub's shoes!

Jakub is getting ready today, getting into the spirit with his fireman clothes. Hopefully we won't go through every single outfit today so we will have something to wear tomorrow!

Big Weekend!

We had a big weekend! It started out with a visit from Dziadzio (Grandpa) and Baba (Grandma) from Michigan! Dziadzio had never met Jakub before, so it was very special! Jakub was his usual mellow self while they were here.

"Auntie" Stacy also visited on Sunday from NYC and met Jakub. Can't wait till she has a little one of her own! :)

Jakub also attended his first Memorial Day parade, complete with marching bands and fire trucks! He got to visit the fire station for the first time. Daddy gave him the tour of the trucks and proudly showed him off to some of his fireman friends.

Babies Dream!

So, Slawek and I have had this debate of whether babies dream or not. Slawek doesn't think they dream because he doesn't think they have anything to dream about. I beg to differ. I think they have a lot to dream about! Just think of all of the cool experiences they have had even up to the point of being born, let alone in the first few days of life! Plus, their little brains are on overdrive, their imaginations just being formed! All that I need for proof that babies do dream is this one picture...he can't tell me that little Jakub was not dreaming when he stuck this pose while sleeping! Maybe he is dreaming about conducting his own symphony orchestra? Or finishing off his jump shot in a basketball game or throwing a pass as quarterback for his own football team? Who knows???

Goofy Faces

Jakub and I were playing today, making faces at each other. I caught a few of the best and thought I would share! He really loves to play with his tongue. A few folks have said that he has my mouth...given the way that he moves his lips into funny positions! You be the judge! Check out the rest of the photo shoot in our photo albums. There are some real keepers!

Great-Great Aunt Ag and Cousin Marilyn Visit!

Jakub got to meet Aunt Ag and Marilyn for the first time today! They drove all the way from Erie, PA for the afternoon just to meet the little one. Jakub didn't really join the party until about 30 minutes before they left...he was taking his mid-day 4 hour nap almost the whole time! We tried our best to wake him most of the time, but he was being stubborn...just like Daddy! At the end of the visit, he redemed himself by actually opening his eyes and making lots of fun faces! We really enjoyed the visit and hope to see Aunt Ag and Marilyn again soon! Check out more pics in our photo albums link on the right.

Oh...he may be cute, he may be cuddly, but he is a poopin machine! They weren't kidding when they said you go through like 10,000 diapers in the first month!

We had our second doctor's appointment yesterday and he has gained all of his weight back and then some! He is an eating machine, too! Jakub also likes to exercise his neck and arms...Daddy makes sure to give him his daily work out, moving his arms and legs and lifting his head on his own!

Silly Misiu

So, Misiu and Ruby have been doing really well with Jakub. Before we had Jakub, we were a little worried about Ruby because she craves so much attention, but both dogs have been amazing so far! Misiu always seems to be nearby to sneak in the random sniff or try to kiss (lick) his head or hand. Misiu always has liked watching TV with Slawek in his lazyboy chair...well, there is room enough there for 2 now!

Happy First Week Birthday!

Today is Jakub's first week birthday! It has been quite a week! First ride in the car, first bath, first doctor appointment, many poopie diapers, a lot of eating and sleeping. Jakub has been great at sleeping at night, much to the delight of Mommy and Daddy! Hopefully he keeps it up! We can't wait for the many, many more weeks to come and all of the facinating things we will experience together!

Settling In

We have gotten into our routine at home now...at least for this week. It has been a big week already for Jakub! He had his first bath, with the help of Nana.We also had our first doctor's office visit! The doctor's office visit was especially exciting because our good friend "Grannie" Lois, also a nurse at our pediatrician, got to meet Jakub for the first time! Jakub got to meet all of the nurses probably faster than any other little boy when Grannie gave him his own personal tour to meet everyone and show him off!

Jakub likes to get the hiccups and they sound so cute! They sometimes go on forever it seems, but still cute none the less! After the first night at home, he is doing really well sleeping at night. We didn't ever think that we would actually have to wake him up after 4 hours to eat in the middle of the night. I think he would sleep straight through if we let him!

Coming home

So we got to bring Jakub home from the hospital today. What a surreal experience! It is a little scary being on our own for the first time. Ruby and Misiu were anxiously awaiting the arrival of their new brother! Things went well with the first meeting...just a few sniffs to little Jakub's butt and they were good to go! It is so great to be home with all of the great gadgets and gifts that everyone has generously given us over the last few months. We can't wait to use them all! We have already put the Pack n Play to great use and Jakub loves it! He is mesmerized by the little vibrations under his butt :)

Episode 2 - Jakub fends off grandmothers with sleeps and gas.

It was difficult to recall when Day 1 ended and Day 2 began but we have realized that we have brand new alarm clock that comes with many volume adjustments. Jakub gave us our first real cry last night, but honestly it was only memorable because we hadnt heard such big noises coming from our little boy. He was very hungry in the night and kept Mom and Dad very busy keeping him nice and stuffed. The big vistors came through today, Grandma G (Baba) and Grandma L (Nana) made sure that he never touched his bassinet. Jakub also was visted by Uncle Jay and had his first experience with a beard. He's been a pure joy and loads of fun.

Amazing day!!

Well well well , what an amazing day, what an amazing experience! The day started out simple enough with an early rise (4:45am) and a leisurely drive to the hospital. It continued with the attempt to open a door with every hand holding a bag and or suitcase and the sleepy valet who watched the entire entrance. Amy was already inside registering in the hospital with the excitement already beginning to build. The start was fairly leisurely, we sipped “labor cocktails” (a nursing concoction of cranberry juice, apple juice and ginger ale – orange juice can substitute for cranberry juice; however vodka would be required in lieu of the rum) and enjoyed cups of Jell-O with our “OOPS, a baby popped out" (Sweet, smellin baby that is) music playlist playing, it was agreeable this baby thing is pretty sweet. With the pitocin drip slowly taking affect the contractions began to position our little guy. Amy handled it beautifully, simply bouncing on the ball or standing, she was able to manage the uncomfortable-ness with what appeared to us as ease. With the drip approaching 30 the contractions just simply grew and grew and grew coming about every 20 seconds and the pain grew right along with them. With the joint efforts of Grandma (Nana) and Dad (Tata) tag teaming back rubbing duties the contractions appeared as though they were beginning on top of each other and the pain was unbearable. The epidural worked beautifully and the soon to be mommy was able to relax and gain some strength for the main event. Dad took the opportunity to inhale what appeared to be a burger and fries (just ate to fast to remember) provided by Nana and Grandpa (Papa) eagerly waiting in the waiting room.

Amy then took over, working together with her body and her strong desire she pushed and pushed and pushed, and the most amazing surprise entered the world. My heart raced, I couldn’t believe how perfect, how big, how amazing Jakub looked, felt and smelled. Mom looked amazing, beautiful and calm. Jakub’s lungs freshly seized the air and he began producing grunts and cries, I reached out with my hand and felt his wet chest, and the noises paused and did not return until my hand left his chest - it was the most amazing experience of my life. What an amazing day!
